Question: Was Jesus really God Himself? Some people say that Jesus never claimed to be God. Don’t some religions teach that Jesus was only a wise man?
Answer: Most of the cults in existence today don’t deny that Jesus ever lived but claim that Jesus was only a wise teacher or prophet. People who insist that Jesus never said He was God must not be familiar with the evidence of Jesus’ life on the earth. The Bible documents that Jesus stated repeatedly that He was God, demonstrated His divine knowledge and power, and even came back from the dead! Jesus revealed Himself directly at times and indirectly at other times that He was the “Son of God” and the “Son of Man”; we can see why He would explain it in those terms because His Father was God, and His mother was a young woman named Mary. Here are some of the references from Jesus’ own words:
Have I been with you so long, and that you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father. John 14:9
For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. Matthew 12:8
Most assuredly I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM. John 8:56-58
I and the Father are one. John 10:30
Jesus also refers to Himself as the Son of God, one of the three parts of God: God the Father, God’s Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The three are understood to be both separate and one at the same time, known as the Trinity, which has always existed (John 1:1-5).
Have you accepted that Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sins in your past, present, and future? He died on a cross so that you won’t ever have to be punished in hell for the wrong things you’ve thought and done. Thank Jesus for the ultimate price He paid for you, and ask Him to guide your life daily!
