Is heaven big enough for everyone?

Question: How can there possibly be enough room in heaven for everyone in all of history who wanted to be there?

Answer:  We humans think in such limited ways, that God could not possibly be powerful enough to create a heaven to hold all who desired to be with Him!  But He is powerful enough and creative enough to have just the right place ready for us when we get there.  Jesus assured His followers that He was preparing a place for them so that they could join Him when they died (John 14:2-3).

The Bible says that God would love for all people to choose to know Him and enjoy the wonderful future He has planned for them in heaven.  However, some people don’t choose to turn their lives over to Jesus so that He can guide them daily.  People selfishly decide to do things their own way, regardless of what Jesus would have them to do.

For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to Him – and all along He knew who would – should become like His Son Jesus, so that His Son would be the first to lead many others there.  And having known who would choose to become like Jesus, He called us to join Him…  Romans 8:29-30

Presently, heaven exists in the unseen realm.  But this will not always be true!  The Bible shows that in the future, heaven will “come down to the New Earth” as a beautiful city, named the “New Jerusalem”.  Revelation 21 and 22 describe this enormous city, the centerpiece of a recreated Earth.  The city alone measures 1,400 miles in length, width, and height.  In terms we can understand, it would be the size of a land mass stretching north-south from the Canadian border to the Mexican border, and west-east from the Californian border to the Appalachian Mountains. This will be a city unlike any our world has ever known, and people from across this new Earth will be able to come and go from the city as they wish. The most important aspect of the city is not its size but that God Himself will live in it and be its light!

Unfortunately, not everyone will choose to follow Jesus during our earthly existence now and will not enter heaven.  In fact, despite hearing the invitation many times during their lives, most people will not choose Jesus!  After they die, they will be forever separated from God, Jesus, and heaven.  Jesus Himself warned:

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.  Matthew 7:13-14

Have you made this important decision about your future, the most important decision of your life?  After your death, it will be too late; the Bible explains that once a person dies, it’s too late to decide (Hebrews 9:27).  Do it now!

Pray:  Jesus, I know I have sinned, and I want to be forgiven. I know that you died on a cross to take my punishment from God so that my sins would not counted against me. Thank you! Come into my life and show me how you want me to live every day. I want to be with you forever!
