Question: Can God, the angels, and the devil all hear what I’m thinking? If God already hears what I’m worried about, do I need to pray?
Answer: The Bible’s pages indicate that only God in triune form – God, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit – can hear a person’s thoughts. God is omniscient – which means, knowing all things. Since angels and the devil were created by God, they can only know and hear whatever He allows. Many people have not read the Bible so they mistakenly think that all supernatural beings have the same abilities. The scriptures point out that only one god exists, and that is the god the Bible says created all things, both seen and unseen. There is an unseen, invisible world of spiritual beings around you, but you cannot see it or hear it because God has not permitted it. The devil and the other disobedient angels who followed him into evil only have specific powers given to them by God. You have nothing to fear from them because God watches over all people who belong to Him. A person “belongs to” or is adopted into God’s own family when he or she accepts that Jesus is God’s Son who died a sacrificial death on the cross so that believers’ sins are forgiven – past, present, and future sins – forever! What a loving God we have!
You are absolutely right that God knows everything that you are worried about. Jesus and God’s own spirit, the Holy Spirit, hear and begin speaking to God on your behalf before you even begin to pray. The Bible says:
The Lord—knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath. Psalm 94:11
…You know when I get up and when I sit down. You understand my thoughts from far away…you know what I will say before I get the words out of my mouth. Psalm 139:2-4
…God cuts deep into our thoughts and desires and knows how we really are. He knows about everyone everywhere. The living God sees so much that nothing can possibly be hidden from Him. Hebrews 4:12-13
For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and He knows everything. I John 3:20
Men and women whose experiences were recorded in the Bible became close to God and were delivered from all kinds of terrible situations after they prayed and asked for His help. Even though He knows you very well already, God urges you to talk to Him throughout the day and read your Bible so you’ll understand more about Him. Talking to Him and getting to know Him brings hope and peace in your mind, and that’s definitely the need of every person who he has created. He desires to have a parent-child relationship with you because He loves you so much!
…humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. I Peter 5:6-7
Have you given your cares, your worries, to God? He is waiting for you to talk with Him. He has prepared a way for you to be with Him for all eternity, where you will never fear or worry ever again. Here’s what He has done:
His Son, Jesus, died to take the punishment for your sins so that you will NEVER have to. That’s why Christians, or followers of Jesus Christ, call Him their Savior. He has saved them from eternal punishment in hell. Have you accepted that Jesus sacrificed Himself for you to allow you to enter heaven when you die, and be presented as clean, sinless, and forgiven before God? If you aren’t sure, say this:
Dear Jesus, I thank you for taking my punishment and paying that terrible price for all the wrongs I’ve committed. I now understand that you are the Son of God, were resurrected from the dead, and are waiting for me in heaven right now. Thank you for your gift to me! Thank you for sending your spirit, the Holy Spirit, to walk through each day with me, guiding, teaching, and advising me. I am so sorry for living like I didn’t care about you, and I want to live the rest of my life to serve you in any way I can. Help me every day! Show me how to help others to also learn of the hope in you for the future that I now have. Amen.
