Question: What is most important to accomplish for God while I am living this life on earth?
Answer: People believe they must do great works for God in order to finish this life on a high note and hear, as Jesus once said, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:23) The Lord does, indeed, have a purpose for each of us and equips us to make a difference in the lives of others. Most of all, He desires a relationship with us, walking and talking together. As our heavenly Father, He wants time with His children – us! That shouldn’t be so surprising, but it is.
Just think about it for a moment:
The God of the universe wants to spend time with you daily. You!
“With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:6-8
Our own ideas that we need to perform outstanding acts and satisfy certain goals reveal a basic misunderstanding – that we must somehow earn our way to reach God and heaven. Nothing could be further from the truth! There is absolutely nothing we can do to purchase God’s favor except one thing – to put our total trust in Jesus, His Son, and accept the free gift that was bought with His blood for us on the cross. When Jesus died, God accepted His blood as payment for the debt we owed due to our many sins. Jesus did this for each of us because He loved us that much. He told his disciples:
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down His own life for His friends.” John 15:13
Our time on earth is short.
Purpose to enjoy your time here now, getting to know your Father in heaven through reading the Bible and hearing it taught, studying with friends, and listening and talking with God. Getting to know God and sensing His presence and His guidance will change your life: You will have deep and lasting peace!
Pray or say this to God now:
Heavenly Father, I know I have sinned in my life, and these wrongs were against you. I need you in my life; I need you to save me from mental, physical, and spiritual destruction at my own hand. Please forgive all of my wrongdoing and let me live in a right relationship with you from now on. Today, I want to receive Jesus as my own Savior, and I trust that He gave His life to save me when he sacrificed His own blood by dying on a cross. Thank you so much for saving me and accepting me. Help me to live a life that makes you proud of me. Amen!
